Every Piece Matters, Rethinking Plastic and Our Oceans
Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans, the equivalent of a garbage truck full of plastic being dumped into the sea every minute.
Much of this waste comes from land, most commonly single-use plastic bags, bottles, and everyday consumer items. The result is devastating, our oceans, waterways, and environment are being choked by the mass production and careless disposal of plastic.
The Rise of Plastic
The large-scale production of plastic began in the 1950s and has only accelerated since. In fact, almost all the plastic ever created still exists today. Unlike natural materials, plastic doesn’t biodegrade. Instead, it breaks down into microplastics, tiny particles less than 5 millimeters in size, which spread throughout our soil, rivers, and seas.
These microplastics are now everywhere, in the water we drink, the food we eat, and even the air we breathe.
The Hidden Cost of Convenience
Plastic was originally celebrated for being cheap, durable, and convenient. But the very qualities that made it revolutionary are now creating an environmental crisis. Our planet simply cannot absorb the volume of waste we’re producing.
With every plastic bag, bottle, or wrapper that’s used once and thrown away, the problem grows bigger.
Why It Matters to Us at Frank + Bare
